How to Play "Float and Shout"

1. The Scenario: Have the children pretend they have fallen into cold water. Emphasize that they should fight the urge to splash or panic.
2. The Posture: Instruct them to lie flat on their backs, tilt their heads back, and keep their ears submerged so they can float.
3. The Action: Have them gently scull their hands and kick their legs slightly to stay afloat, while loudly practicing shouting, "Help!"
4. Purpose: This builds muscle memory for the "Float" rule (part of the Royal Life Saving Society's Water Safety Code). 

Other Interactive Ideas

• Spot the Hidden Dangers: Fill an opaque, clear container with water and drop in small objects (bottle lids, pens). Blindfold participants and have them reach in to "feel" the hidden dangers beneath the surface. It simulates real-life open water where hazards are unseen.
• Safety Flags Relay: If you have access to a swimming pool, laminate pictures of beach safety flags and place them on the deck. Have kids race to "swim" or "walk" to the correct flag when given a scenario (e.g., "Where is it safe to swim?").
• Online/Classroom Games: For a quieter option, let children play interactive digital games like the Swim England Online Water Safety Game on a tablet or smartboard.
